Scientific interests:
Flax industry in Estonia, using short flax
fibre in technical textiles ( nonwoven materials
applicable as mulches - weedkillers for transplants,
coating web for plant protection, seed mats
etc), using flax microfibres in polyethylene
composites, adhesive properties of melt polyethylene.
Expertise of Department/Organisation:
Tallinn Technical University (TTU) academic
structure has eight faculties among these
Faculty of Chemistry and Materials Technology.
The TTU Testing Group has 13 testing laboratories.
One of them is Textiles Testing Laboratory.
TTU has more than 9,400 students of whom
1,340 have joined the Master's programme
and 300 the doctor'sprogramme. TTU has a
staff of 1250 persons: 580 are members of
scientific staff (110 professors, 157 lecturers).
Research and development budget was EEK 107,1
million in 2001 (1 US $ = 15 EEK). TTU plans
to establish six R&D centres also in
the sector of advanced materials and technologies
(including textiles). TTU is one of the founders
of Tallinn Technology Park Development Foundation.
